Steam Coast Trail

The Steam Coast Trail in Somerset is a delightful, developing network of multi-use paths for walkers, cyclists, wheelchair users, and even runners. It winds its way through the glorious West Somerset countryside, offering stunning coastal views, charming villages, and a glimpse into the region’s rich history.

Here’s a quick snapshot of the trail:

Currently, there are two completed phases. Phase One stretches for 2 km from Dunster Beach, close to Blue Anchor, while Phase Two covers 1.1 km from Old Cleeve (Dragon’s Cross) to Washford (Cobbler’s Steps). More phases are planned in the future, extending the trail further along the coast.

Dunster Beach: Enjoy a lovely stretch of sand and pebbles, backed by a nature reserve teeming with wildlife.

West Somerset Railway: The trail runs alongside the tracks of this charming heritage railway, adding a touch of nostalgia to your journey.

Blue Anchor Bay: Soak in the breathtaking vistas of the Bristol Channel and the distant hills of South Wales.

Old Cleeve: Explore this picturesque village with its thatched cottages and traditional pubs.

Washford: Discover the history of this former port town, once a bustling center for the export of iron ore.

Suitability: The trail is generally flat and easy to navigate, making it suitable for people of all ages and abilities. However, there are a few short sections with steeper inclines, so be prepared for some light exercise.
